# Workboard: Update Record

> Update a Workboard record with new information

Updating records with new information is where Workboard really gets to work. With the **Workboard Update Record** steptype, you can add a serial number to troubleshooting record, a shipping tracking number to an RMA record, or any detail on any type of Workboard record.

## Step Configuration

In addition to the general step configuration options, this step has the following specific options that can be configured.

### Allow Blank Values?

Check this box to allow blank values to be written to Workboard record. This is handy for flag fields - fields where you can mark a particular record for review or escalation - since this field is only needed in some cases and can be left empty in most cases.

### Update Parent Record? / Update Sibling Record?

Check one of these boxes if you wish to update a parent or sibling to the current Workboard record in your team's session in Sidekick. You can only check one of these boxes at a time.

### Select Record Type

Use this dropdown to select the specific Workboard record type you wish to update.

### Enter Values

Use this table to manage and set the values of fields on the Workboard record.

* Order
  * Use this field to set the order in which the fields will update and appear in Sidekick.
* Field
  * Use this dropdown to select the field you wish to update on the Workboard record.
* Value
  * Use this field to enter the value to be updated in the specified Workboard record field.
  * You can hard code this value, leave it blank for your team to fill, and use the <Icon icon="plus" /> button to pull in variables from your CRM ticket or case and any other systems connected to FlowEQ.
* Hide Input?
  * Check this box to make the field appear as read-only to your team in Sidekick.
* Required?
  * Check this box to make this field mandatory to your team in Sidekick.
  * If checked, your team will not be able to advance to the next step if this field is left blank.
* Add New Row
  * Click this button to add as many additional fields to update as you need.
