# Slack Post New Message

> Use FloweQ to send a message into a Slack channel

Slack is a messaging program designed specifically for the workplace. It's particularly great at keeping information within and between teams Flowing, making a great integration to activate with FlowEQ. Use the **Slack Post New Message** steptype to automate or accelerate the posting of important information to Slack right from the support ticket in Sidekick.

## Step Configuration

In addition to the general step configuration options, this step has the following specific options that can be configured.

### Specify Channel

Use this field to specify into which Slack channel your message should be posted. The channel name will have to match how it appears in Slack exactly.

You can use the <Icon icon="plus" /> variable button to pull in details from other system, and check the**Hide Field in Sidekick?** box to prevent your team from reading or changing the Slack channel in Sidekick.

### Message to Post

Use this field to write the message content. You can write anything you like here, or leave it blank for your team to fill out in Sidekick, or use the <Icon icon="plus" /> variables button to add details from other systems connected to FlowEQ, or any combination of the three together.

Similar to the Specify Channel field, you can also check the **Hide Field in Sidekick?** to prevent your team from seeing or editing the message before it gets sent. This option is useful if the Slack channel is intended for alerts and the messages posted to the channel should fit a certain pattern.

### Link Names

Check this box to use `@mentions` in your message content to tag people in Slack and trigger notifications to them. You can also check the Hide Field in Sidekick box to prevent your team from changing this setting in Sidekick.

<Note>
  `@mentions` are case-sensitive. Make sure to match display names one-to-one as they appear in Slack. If you want to supercharge how you're mentioning team members on Slack with FlowEQ, we recommend leveraging user groups.
