The reliability and consistency of fields in Salesforce records can make all the difference for your team, whether for a seamless edge case escalation or end-of-quarter reporting. But all too often, field data needs to be manually entered, which can take a lot of clicks.
Instead, use the Salesforce Update Record Fields steptype to automatically update all the fields you need. They're especially beneficial after decision tree steptypes since each decision can lead to more precise subsequent actions and field updates.
Building the steptype
Title
This text will appear up top when your team reaches this step. If you set this steptype to auto-run, use this field to describe what the step is doing, like "Adding product name to Salesforce case...".
If you want your team to enter data manually, use this field to describe what they should do, like "Select the correct product name."
Automatically Run Step?
Check this box to run this steptype automatically when your team reaches it. A checked box will not give your team a chance to enter data, so you'll need to do all the configuration here in Flow Builder.
Object Name
Select from the dropdown the Salesforce record you want to update. FlowEQ can pull in standard and custom Salesforce objects, but not all of them by default. If you don't see the Salesforce object you need, let us know at support@floweq.com, and we'll take care of you.
Enter Values
Order
Sets the order of the record fields as they will appear in Sidekick. The Automatically Run Step? checkbox overrides this, which makes the fields not appear in Sidekick at all.
Field Name
Select the field you want to update from the selected Salesforce object. We pull in many object fields, but not all of them by default. If you need an object field added to the dropdown, let us know at support@floweq.com.
Value
The value you want entered into the selected object field in Salesforce. Here you can enter fixed plain text manually or use the ➕ button to pull in details from elsewhere in Salesforce or other systems integrated with FlowEQ.
Hidden?
Check this box to hide that field from view in Sidekick. Hiding fields can be helpful for only showing your team only the most essential fields while automatically setting the less important ones from Flow Builder.
Manual?
Check this box to allow your team to enter data into this field manually. If you do not check this box, your team will see this field under Sidekick's read-only Automatic Updates section.
Required?
Check this box to make filling out this field mandatory when your team reaches this step. Your team will not be able to advance to the next step in the flow unless this field has valid content.
Be careful when using this checkbox without checking the Manual? box too. Doing so will remove your team's ability to manually enter data into the required field, potentially halting the flow from advancing further.
Following the steptype
The screenshot below shows how the steptype configured above will look in Sidekick.
Note that the Hidden Case Type field is not visible, the Company field is under Manual inputs, and the Status field has a red asterisk showing that this field is required to proceed in the flow.
